Frequently Asked Questions
When can my child start using a WeeRide?
Your child can cycle with you on the WeeRide from 12 months
old.
At 12 months your child will have the neck strength to support their
head while wearing a cycle helmet and riding along with you.
When will the
WeeRide adventure have to end?
The maximum child weight the WeeRide can carry is 18kg.
This is the weight of the average New Zealand 5 year old boy.
The child's height is more likely to be an issue sooner than
weight. The WeeRide can fit a 1m tall average 3 1/2 year old
New Zealand boy quite comfortably. Some children have been
known to last significantly longer in the WeeRide.
Will the WeeRide fit on my bike?
The WeeRide seat comes with a unique Support Bar which can be attached
to virtually any bike shape including 'Y' frame ladies bikes and full
suspension mountain bikes.
The WeeRide is not suitable for racing style bikes with drop (curled)
handlebars.
The standard supplied WeeRide will not fit bikes with a head-tube
outside diameter of greater than 43mm. If your bike's head-tube is
greater than 43mm then longer manufacturer approved bolts can be
substituted.

(Your
bike's handlebar
stem slots into the
head-tube which is where the front of the WeeRide Support Bar is
attached).
How much does the WeeRide weigh?
The installed WeeRide weighs 3.2kg.
What tools do I need to install the WeeRide?
An adjustable spanner and a 5mm
Allen (Hex) key wrench are the only tools required when installing the
WeeRide.
How long will it take me to install the WeeRide?
The installation of the Support Bar (from
head-tube to seat-post) takes around 20 minutes for the average
unskilled
person.
Can I take the WeeRide off my bike when I'm riding alone?
The WeeRide is quickly and easily secured to and removed
from the Support Bar by way of a supplied thumb knob (butterfly bolt).
Can the WeeRide be easily used on another Bike?
Extra Support Bars are available to enable the WeeRide to be easily
swapped from one bike to another.
I've lost the WeeRide thumb knob. Can I get another?
Spare parts are available. Please

Does the WeeRide comply with New Zealand safety standards?
The current applicable standard
AS/NZS
4287:1995 Child carrier seats
for pedal bicycles – Safety requirements
is not referenced
by any legislation and therefore compliance is voluntary. The WeeRide
does not comply with this standard as it specifically mentions rear
mounted seats only.
The standard is overdue for review and it is hoped that the
path the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (
CPSC) and the
American Society for Test and Materials (
ASTM)
is
taking will be followed by New Zealand. "A motion to initiate a
standard for front mounted carriers was approved" by the
ASTM
Bicycle Subcommittee Meeting in September 2006.
