Does the WeeRide Kangaroo comply with New Zealand safety standards?

The current applicable standard AS/NZS 4287:1995 Child carrier seats for pedal bicycles – Safety requirements is not referenced by any legislation and therefore compliance is voluntary. The WeeRide Kangaroo does not comply with this standard as it specifically mentions rear mounted seats only.

The standard is overdue for review and it is hoped that the path the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the American Society for Test and Materials (ASTM) is taking will be followed by New Zealand. "A motion to initiate a standard for front mounted carriers was approved" by the ASTM Bicycle Subcommittee Meeting in September 2006.
